Working with a couple in Yunnan who travel by motorcycle to different villages throughout the year to sample different harvests, we particularly liked this 2020 loose leaf shou from Menghai. Emergence comes from trees that are roughly 30 years old and the flavor is consistent with most shou puerh from Menghai: rich, deep and layered flavors. The medium level of fermentation leaves a clean, clear taste that speaks to the emergence of clarity in the Spring. The tea is gently uplifting and moves through the whole body.
This tea was produced by the couple who also made our private reserve shou dragon balls, Inner Light, which our community has loved for the past year. Their expert processing and commitment to sustainability comes through in the teas they make. They’re tea lovers who only produce a small quantity twice a year, after traveling to multiple mountains to find the best harvest. We’re grateful they had extra of this 2020 master-craft shou.
