Description
Compassion is a cross between Tie Guan Yin and Huang Jing Gui! Young Huang Jin Gui tea bushes are cut and then Tie Guan Yin varietal is grafted with it. After 2 years the plant produces this “Golden Tie Guan Yin.” Huang Jin Gui is named after the yellow golden color of its budding leaves and its unique flowery aroma, that many liken to osthmanthus. This oolong is similar to Tie Guan Yin and also from Anxi, but it has less oxidation, thus yielding a flowery, delicate aroma without the astringency of a green tea or the heaviness of a red tea. What I love most about this hybrid is the thick sweet aftertaste and patience of Huang Jin Gui combined with the pervasive Tie Guan Yin taste.
The fresh, burgeoning floral aroma and taste are perfect for spring. The sweetness softens the intense yang energy that arises during this time of year, reminding us to anchor all the “doing energy” in compassion and service to others.
